PAS Chapters
Parents who have children with special needs require an opportunity to interface with each other through meetings, emails and telephone contact. We propose that parents create informal groups in familes of schools called PAS CHAPTERS. Parents would be invited to attend palnning groups in a neighborhood home or library meeting room perhaps once a month to share resources, experiences, ideas and thoughts pertaining to their collective interests. Presenters may attend from time-to-time.
Parents from PAS CHAPTERS would be invited to attend school meetings with other parents to give mutual support to their requests. Upon request PAS will furnish information on the benefits of organizing a PAS CHAPTER in your community. There can be greater strength in numbers in dealing with the school around special needs programs and services.
Our organization (Parent's Advocacy in the School) would like to play an active role in forming these neighborhood school groups (PAS CHAPTERS). After awhile groups from one part of the city may meet up with those from another area to share goals and other points of interest. Lists of qualified advocates could be circulated and parents who are comfortable accompanying other parents to meetings with principals etc. could be discussed.
Parent's Advocacy in the School supports the growth of this vital networking by supplying information, speakers and other possible resources. Please contact us if you are interested in this project. ALSO CONTACT US TO SHARE YOUR ISSUES/IDEAS WITH OTHER PARENTS. We will post some of your replies.
