Advocacy Training
We are presently offering the Parent Advocacy Consultant in Education Training Program, formerly presented on the website of The Learning Disabilities Association of Ontario, to parents and those interested in school issues concerning children with special needs. The program will use an adapted form of the course curricula based on the text: Exceptional Children--Ordinary Schools: Getting the Education You Want for Your Special Needs Child by Dr. Norm Forman.
Participants will acquire practical skills in advocacy and documentation management in order to become an effective parent advocate for children with exceptionalities. You will explore the roles and responsibilities of parents and educators as well as the importance of Individual Education Plans and Identification, Placement and Review Committees. For parents and caregivers taking the course, it may enable them to facilitate an education plan that better meets the needs of their child.
A Certificate of Completion will be issued after successfully fulfilling the requirements of the Program. Participants may choose to use the Program to help their children or others and may also elect to set up an Advocacy Consultant service available to the public on a fee-for-service basis.
If you are interested in this Program and would like more information and details please contact us with your request.
